Engraving and prints
Museum of engraving
Engraving is the heart of the graphic arts, and the MUNAG preserves not only prints but also the matrices they were printed from: plates of wood, copper, lead, bronze, brass and linoleum.
That is the difference from many museum collections of prints: here you can see the object that made the image. Copper plates show the sunken lines of etching; lead and wood plates, the relief that took the ink.
The collection spans colonial religious engravings, 19th-century popular images, original plates by José Guadalupe Posada and Manuel Manilla, and 20th-century prints.
