MUNAG
Museum of Graphic Arts
The National Museum of the Graphic Arts (MUNAG) holds one of the most complete collections on the history of the printed image: from pre-Hispanic clay stamps to the presses, movable type and engravings of the 20th century.
Its holdings include the press known as the Juan Pablos press, the first in the Americas; original plates by José Guadalupe Posada and Manuel Manilla; choir books, colonial imprints, decks of playing cards, gilding tools, book covers and pre-Hispanic pieces.
The collection began to be assembled in the early 20th century by Guillermo Echaniz and Julieta Latremouille, grew under Don Armando Birlain Schafler and is now in the care of the Fundación Armando Birlain S. para la Cultura y las Artes A.C.
The whole collection is organized in seven rooms and can be explored online, piece by piece, with photographs and catalog records.
