The Juan Pablos Press
Museum of printing
The MUNAG is, to a large extent, a museum of printing. Its best-known piece is the wooden press associated with Juan Pablos, the printer who in 1539 set up the first print shop in the Americas in Mexico City.
Alongside it, the collection includes screw presses, lithographic presses, binding and embossing presses, typewriters, lead and wood movable type, type holders, leads and print-shop tools.
Seeing these machines together lets you follow the evolution of the craft: from the wooden screw, very similar to Gutenberg's, to iron presses and 19th-century mechanization.
Below is a selection of presses and workshop pieces from the collection.
